Platige Image launches its new advanced motion capture studio

Platige Image, a production and post-production studio, recently launched its new highly advanced motion capture studio.

The primary distinguishing feature of the motion capture (Mocap) studio is its size. The studio’s considerable dimensions of 20m x 13m and 8m enable realisation of scenes with up to a dozen characters at once (body performance), or four actors in the case of full performance capture: body capture, face capture and fingers capture.

The studio known for Resident Evil: Village trailer is equipped with four fully wireless video references with autofocus, stabilisation and a focal range of 25 to 380 mm, which at the same time serve as virtual cameras with full focal shift synchronisation between the reference camera and the virtual camera. Platige Image benefits from its own solution for building set design components, which offers almost unlimited possibilities for arranging the interior for the project. With the studio configured like this, the only possible limitation is scenes that require filming in an open space.

“The launch of the motion capture studio is part of our strategy for 2021-2025, including production of our own video games, films and series,” said Platige Image CEO Karol Żbikowski. “Thanks to an even stronger technological base we will efficiently implement external projects from our pipeline and significantly improve our creative processes in productions which are underway which Platige studio is currently working on.”

“In the new studio, we will realise both recordings for our internal projects, made exclusively in Platige, such as cinematics, scenes cut, in-game animations, as well as fully mocap projects, i.e. when only the movements of characters and actors are recorded, which will be delivered to clients in the form of raw or scrubbed session data,” said Platige Image mocap producer Elżbieta Trosińska.

Trosińska further mentioned, “Not only are we up to date with the development of motion capture technology in the world, but we are also developing our own solutions in this area. Among other things, we have created a proprietary HMC (Head-Mounted Camera) system for recording faces. It is an ultra-lightweight system, allowing us to obtain a recording that captures all the details.”

The company currently employs more than 300 world-class professionals responsible for the successes of many of the world’s best-sellers in gaming, film, advertising and virtual reality. The studio’s portfolio includes projects for leading computer game publishers like Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, SEGA, Creative Assembly, and Tencent.

Resident Evil: Village, Metro: Exodus-Artyom’s Nightmare, The Medium, Total War: Warhammer II or the Call of Duty series, or Dying Light 2 – these are some renowned trailers by Platige which have been recognised by the international gaming community.
