The 2023 Annie Awards was held on 25 February in Los Angeles at UCLA’s Royce Hall. With live presenters including Scott Weinger and Linda Larkin, who provided the voices of Aladdin and Jasmine in Disney’s 1992 Aladdin, the animation community celebrated the 50th anniversary of the awards.
The night’s most awards went to Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, which won in five categories including Best Directing, Best Music, Best Production Design, Best Character Design and Best Film.
Surprisingly the second spot went to the stop-motion film Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, which took home three prizes, including Best Independent Feature. Jenny Slate won the voice acting award for her portrayal of Marcel; Slate, Dean Fleischer Camp, Nick Paley and Elizabeth Holm took up the Best Feature Writing trophy.
