An advertising copy writer by Profession and B.A by Academics, Cyrus Daruwala, who is impressed with the medium of comic creation, is all set to launch his very first comic book ‘I Take This Train Too’ at this week’s Mumbai Film and Comics Convention.
It is said that you can pass long travel hours by observing people around you! And Cyrus gives a different twist to this in his book by humorously profiling unique characters found in Mumbai’s local trains.
AnimationXpress.com spoke to Cyrus to to know more about this book and he says, “It struck me
that no one has really explored and documented this facet of daily life. Through illustrations and wit, the book explores this microcosmic universe.”
Each character in this 96 pages book is blended with a different color scheme and Cyrus is confident that the book will be of interest to mass audiences.
“I feel the book proves that truth is often funnier than fiction and comfortably sits in the new & growing category of picture books as well.” Adds Cyrus
A close look at the credits of the book show that it is written and Illustrated by Cyrus, Published by Alok Nanda- Filter Press, Mahesh Ramparia has designed the book and looked after the production. Jak Printers has taken care of the printing Naresh and Sumit also have a helping hand for the production. The printing was part crowd-funded and the credit lies with Wishberry.in and all crowd funders.
For creating a healthy interaction between the reader and characters in this book, Cyrus made sure to draw out rough sketches in the train or take discreet photos for later reference. Cyrus sketched all what was in his mind and then made use of Wacom tablet for digitally executing the final inking and coloring part.
Adds more, “The printing of this book is a must watch! We used special paper to give the book an earthy textured feel. The binding we chose was thread binding with an open spine. And finally we also added an outer slip-case that was machine printed but put together by hand.”
We asked Cyrus on why would one enjoy ‘I Take This Train Too’ and he says,”Reading this book will change your life and all those around you instantly. You will learn to laugh at your troubles, as I did when crammed in an over-crowded train compartment.”
