Disney will have separate heads for APAC and India with Uday Shankar stepping down as The Walt Disney Company APAC president and Star & Disney India chairman.
The Walt Disney Company International Operations and Direct-to-Consumer chairman Rebecca Campbell announced this today, effective from the end of this month, i.e. till Shankar is serving at the company.
Campbell told the staff in an internal communication that a leader for the company’s India business will be appointed in early 2021. “In the interim, Star head K Madhavan and Disney+ Hotstar India head Sunil Ryan will report to me,” she wrote.
Speaking about Shankar, Campbell stated, “As previously announced, Uday Shankar will be leaving us at the end of the month to pursue a new endeavour that will focus on supporting and mentoring a new generation of entrepreneurs. I know you all join me in thanking him for his incredible contributions to the industry, Star and The Walt Disney Company – and wish him all the best.”
Luke Kang has been named as the new The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific president reporting to Campbell. Kang will oversee the company’s business in Australia/New Zealand, Greater China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia.
