Asifa India’s monthly “CGMeetups” is turning one. A multi-studio VFX showcase is slated as part of its 1st anniversary celebrations which are to be held on January 28 (3.00pm onwards) at Mumbaiâ€?s K.C. College.
Studios that are going to showcase their VFX work include R&H India (Night at the Museum), EFX (Krrish, Alag), VCL (Dhoom2, Rang De Basanti & One Night with the King) and Prime Focus (Guru & Jaaneman).
The VFX session will include technical shot break downs, behind the scene videos as well as approaches, solutions and work related anecdotes. Each of the showcases will be followed by Q&A sessions where the audience queries will be answered by experts.
Interested Individuals can register for free by sending an email to cgmeetups@rhythm.com
On site registrations will also be allowed on a first come first serve basis.
When asked about what they were expecting out of the CG meet up and their presentations, this is what the presenters had to say to Animation Xpress.com
Vishal Anand (VCL): “This will be my first CG meet up and would be presenting case studies of VFX for Dhoom 2, One Night With the King and Rang De Basanti. I think it’s going to be an interactive session and opportunity to meet and talk to other people in the industry. The meet up will be a good place to exchange views on different subjects, ideate with other people around and see what the others are doing.”
Merzin Tavaria (Prime Focus): “Itâ€?s a good feeling to have the community come together especially not for the business aspect of it. It would be interesting to hear the other artistsâ€? views. As part of Prime Focusâ€? presentation, we would show the effects used in Guru and Jaaneman showing how VFX can be used to enhance the narrative and not only action, thereby focusing on the subtle VFX and not the obvious.”
Rajiv Raghunathan (EFX): “My presentation is going to be on Krrish and Alag. Iâ€?m looking forward to having a good time and understand what the other speakers have to say. Asifa is a selfless effort by a group of people and Iâ€?m willing to support in any way. Iâ€?m hoping that the CG meet up on the 28th would turn out well.”
Nvidia is sponsoring a free raffle where winners stand a chance of getting Quadro FX cards. Other partners and supporters of the community event include AnimationXpress.com, cgTantra, CGArena, FICCI VEC, Women in Animation and Autodesk.
Both in terms of community interaction and knowledge sharing, Indian CG artists had an exciting year in 2006. One of the key forces instrumental in this has been Asifa India, which other than its involvement with IAD and Anifest (along with TASI) has been hosting monthly CG meet-ups consistently for the past one year.
In the journey so far the meet-ups have covered topics such as Animation, modeling, lighting, drawing fundamentals, technology, compositing as well as short film screenings.
