Students of Inurture create Assame Musical ‘Abegetiar Beloi’

A group of students called ‘East India Company’ from I-Nurture  have created an animated Assamese Musical called ‘Abegetiar Beloi’ ( Abegetiar predicament), a 6 minute Digital Cutout Animation Music Video for their final year project.

It is a short musical based on an Assamese folk character ‘Abegetia’ a midget and his wife ‘Rupohi’ and the problems they encounter on their journey to Rupohi’s fathers village.

The entire production work was done in 4 months at the I-Nurture Campus in Bangalore by a team of 4 students – Partha Jyoti, Jawadhur Rahman, Konthajan Sandeep Singh and Kaushik Dutta under the supervision of Mr.Aroop Dwivedi a Senior Mentor in I-Nurture Education Solutions.

‘Abegetiar Beloi’ is being sent for participation in Anifest India film festival that is to be held in Mumbai next month.

Talking to Animationxpress.com about their musical the team behind ‘Abegetiar Beloi’ said “It was a concept that came to our mind while we were discussing about our final year project. It’s a film that embodies a subtle anthropological humor. The film offers a close glimpse of north-eastern life and culture and brings to life a ancient folklore in a sing song fashion.

“Partha came up with the concept of the musical. Our grandparents used to tell us stories about this character when we were kids. We liked the character ‘Abegatia’ very much. So we discussed this with our mentor and he too loved the concept, therefore we came up with the story of ‘Abegetiar Beloi’.”

“When we came up with the concept we were planning to make it in 3D, but after discussing with our mentor and our faculties we decided to it in digital cutout.”

“Initially it was difficult to work in this medium as this was the first time we were doing a digital cutout animation, so we were on a very steep learning curve. One of a major advantage with this medium is, a digital cutout allows you to reuse animation of different elements of one scene and create a completely new scene by permutation and combination.”

“This film would not have been possible without the help that we got from our faculties. We would like to thank Mr. Anandadeep and Mr. Muthuswamy, for their guidance for the pre- production and also a big “thank you” to Mr. Aroop for all his support he gave as a mentor throughout this project.”

“We are planning to launch the film on the Internet, through social networking sites as we have seen one of our fellow groups (Monetalis) getting immense success and popularity doing so.”

We also plan to send the film for festivals starting with ‘Anifest India’ film festival that is to be held on Mumbai next month and to all the domestic festivals that follows it”. Shared the team

Elaborating more on the role of I-Nurture in this project, Aroop Dwivedi,
Senior Mentor in I- Nurture Education Solutions said,” The idea behind these Student projects is to offer the students the experience of Ground zero and a taste of how the life is on the far side of the campus.

“A student gets to learn quite a few things through this, the student gets to work on the project from its inception to execution to promotion, He gets to do the script, storyboard and execute the film and everything that lies in the middle.””

“Abegetiar Beloi is a special film to me, It has been exciting working with the students on this film. I am hoping that people enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it. Abegetiar Beloi is special in a way as it drives home a point, that i firmly believe in “You don’t have to be a good artist to be a good Animator”.

“I-Nurture as an institution has made steady progress over the past 6-8 years , the only way you can judge a quality of education in an institution like ours is through the quality of films that the students are making at their respective study centers and i am pretty pleased to observe that we are doing very nicely in that area.”he added

“I am currently working on an animation film called ‘Aai’ and another student project in 3D. There is also ‘Monetails’, another student project that is going be sent for participation at Anifest 2012. “

A new academic year is about to start and therefore i am looking forward to more interesting and exciting student films in the following year, wish me luck.” shared Aroop.
