India, the country where it all began, is the pick for Netflix for the world premiere of Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. The streaming powerhouse has also announced a stellar voice cast from the Bollywood industry, on Instagram.
The list goes: Anil Kapoor as Baloo, Madhuri Dixit as Nisha, Abhishek Bachchan as Bagheera, Kareena Kapoor Khan as Kaa and Jackie Shroff as Shere Khan.
This will be first-ever world premiere of a big-budget Hollywood film in India and the occasion will be graced by director Andy Serkis, stars Christian Bale, Freida Pinto, and newcomer Rohan Chand, who will walk the red carpet in Mumbai on 25 November.
The English cast of the film includes Benedict Cumberbatch (Shere Khan), Cate Blanchett (Kaa), director Serkis (Baloo), Bale (Bagheera), Naomie Harris, Peter Mullan and Matthew Rhys.
Netflix is leaving no stone unturned to expand its Indian market. Recently, it flew down actors Michael Pena, Diego Luna and showrunner Eric Newman, for the launch of Narcos: Mexico to Mumbai. Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle’ s trailer was launched last week in Singapore at Netflix’s See What’s Next: Asia event where it also revealed its upcoming India slate.
Netflix took up worldwide rights to the live-action feature, based on Rudyard Kipling’s classic novel The Jungle Book, and will stream Mowgli on 7 December.
