Sholay Adventures (2015): “Kitne aadmi the?” This famous dialogue which was made legendary by Gabbar, the infamous villain can be heard in Bollywood’s biggest cult feature film, Sholay. Well, Sholay Adventures is the first animated feature film of the four part series that is now planned. ‘Sholay Adventures’ is created by Graphic India along with Sholay Media and Entertainment and was aired on Pogo earlier this year.
Jai and Veeru are seen as mischievous kids working for Thakur Uncle’s secret Sholay police agency who fight against the evil Gabbar and his monster gang named Fright Force. Though mischievous, the kids are good at heart and are known for their friendship, teamwork, creativity, respect for elders and family and responsibility.
Goopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiya (2013): Goopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiya (The World of Goopi and Bagha, 2013) is a feature film directed and conceptualised by talented Indian animator Shilpa Ranade and the original characters – Goopi and Bagha – were created by globally acclaimed director Satyajit Ray’s grandfather Upendrakishore Roychowdhury.
The story revolves around two young men – Goopi, the singer and Bagha, the drummer who get banished from their respective villages as their music wasn’t appreciated by people. They met each other on a dark night in a forest and from there their friendship begins. Watch this amazingly crafted movie to get to know their adventurous journey filled with ghosts, wars and princesses. The animation for the movie is done by Paperboat Animation Studios.
Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan (2012): Based on kids’ favorite superhero, Chhota Bheem, Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan is the 11th movie in the Chhota Bheem movie series, but the first to have a theatrical outing. The film was made under Green Gold Animation in association with PVR Pictures.
The film deals with how Chhota Bheem and his friends get captured by an immortal demon named Damyaan. He was granted immortality by a book called as ‘Book of Magi’ and the only way to destroy him is by killing him and destroying the Book of Magi. Join Bheem and his friends to rescue the princess of Dholakpur as protects the world from the Damyaan.
Delhi Safari (2012): Directed by Nikhil Advani, Delhi Safari was a bilingual film (Hindi and English) which was produced by Krayon Pictures. Delhi Safari was supported by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as the film follows the theme of rights for animals and forest conservation.
In a mission to stop the humans from destroying their home i.e. the forest, a cub leopard, his mother, a monkey, a bear and a parrot go on a journey to approach the Parliament to stop this from happening. The animals can be seen throwing questions towards humans regarding the co-existence of man and nature which makes man to stop and think about the animals plea. Catch this safari which is filled with adventure, risks, bonding with one-another, complete Bollywood masala with a voice cast that includes Govinda.
Sons of Ram (2012): Based on the mythological characters, Luv and Kush, Sons of Ram is a creation of ACK Animation Studios, and co-produced by Maya Digital Studios 3D with Cartoon Network India.
Sita who’s the wife of the great warrior king, Ram was exiled from the kingdom. Unaware of his twin sons’ existence, Luv and Kush live in sage Valmiki’s hermitage where they are imparted with wisdom, compassion & combat skills along. Having no connection with the outer world, Luv and Kush though being brothers are more like friends.
Koochie Koochie Hota Hai (2011): If you have missed out watching Kuch Kuch Hota hai, this is the chance you can sit with your friends and enjoy this beautiful journey of friends in an animated movie named ‘Koochie Kocchie Hota Hai’. Koochie Koochie Hota Hai is directed by Vishal Sonawane and Tarun Mansukhani and co-produced by Dharma Productions and Prana Studios.
The story line is same as the main story; just the characters have been changed from humans to animals. We can see love story between three dogs and there are supporting characters like roosters, bears, pigs, cats, and many others who are friends with each other. Find out how old friendship is revived and lost love is found.
Maruti Mera Dost (2009): Directed by Manikya Raju, Maruti Mera Dost is hybrid of live-action and animation about Sankat Mochan Hanuman who always helps his followers. The film’s story looks like an Indian version of the fairytale.
The story is kind of like Cinderella, girl’s (Rameshwari) mother dies and dad gets remarried to a impish lady. The twist over here is that Rameshwari’s step grandmom turns out to be evil and tries to make her life hell. So Rameshwari ends up finding solace in a boy named Maruti who’s actually Hanuman. Maruti comes into stay with them and together along with having fun; Rameshwari and Maruti fight the evil lady, Kokai’s monsters. Kokoi then plans out a scheme to throw him out. Watch this sweet good versus evil film to know what happens next.
Jumbo (2008): Jumbo is the remake of the Thai movie Khan Kluay which was directed by Kompin Kemgumnird, who’s an animator and has worked on films ranging from The Lion King to Ice Age. In India the movie was produced by Percept Picture Company and the creative direction on the Hindi film was carried out by Mayur Puri.
This tale is about the life of a young, happy go lucky elephant named Jumbo whose father’s whereabouts is unknown to him. Tired of being constantly bullied by other elephants, he takes out on a journey to find the truth about his father. On this journey he comes across old family friend and also makes new friends who eventually help him know the truth about his father eventually leading him to become a war elephant, and what happens next is a must watch.
Ghatothkach (2008): The movie is based on the life of Ghatothkach, the son of Bheema and Hidimba from the Mahabharata mythology. Premiered at 2008 Cannes Film Festival, Ghatothkach is written and directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao. The Animation Division at Shemaroo along with Sun Animatics at Hyderabad co-produced the film.
Ghatothkach who’s lovingly called as Ghattu is blessed with extra-ordinary powers and is the prince of the forest. Once he rescues a baby elephant that he names as Gajju and that leads them to the bond of a lifelong friendship. Together Ghattu and Gajju form an invincible team and destroy all the evil forces that come in their way, which helps Ghattu’s cousin Abhimanyu to get married to Surekha.
My Friend Ganesha (2007): My Friend Ganesha was directed by Rajiv S Ruia and produced by Manish Ruparel, Raman Trikha, Mitesh Mehta and Ronak Bhagat. The film was an in house production by Koffee Break Pictures Ltd and has two sequels to its credit as well.
The film is about an 8 year old kid Ashu who is a very lonely child as his parents are busy with their work and he doesn’t have many friends. Once his maid Gangubai narrates the story of Lord Ganesha and his pet ride Mushakraj (mouse) who is also his friend; and as the festival of Ganesh arrives, Ashu asks her if Ganesha would be his friend to which she replies positively. During those 11 days, Ganesha becomes Ashu’s friend and together with him solves various problems of his family and have a lot of fun.
