‘Doctor Strange’ unearths his hidden potential in the new psychedelic teaser trailer

Marvel Studios has released the first official teaser trailer for director Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange, featuring the heartthrob Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role.

The trailer was revealed by Cumberbatch on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’! on ABC (also owned by Disney), appearing as a large head on a video screen with a booming, echoing voice – in a comedy sketch. Before revealing the trailer, he made a balloon animal, then disappeared just like the character he’s portraying in the movie.

The trailer encapsulates the Doctor Strange movie’s storyline that follows the life of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

We couldn’t have asked for a better teaser trailer. Cumberbatch has owned his character and can be seen delivering some amazing performance. In the 2:03 minute clip, we witness the change of attitude in Stephen Strange; from a man who never believed in the power of belief or chakras finally resorting to them to cure himself for a greater cause.

The scene that defines Strange’s position is the one where we see his steady hands before he enters the operation theatres and the next moment we get to see his post accident shaky hands that becomes steady when he goes to the ancient one and she brings his soul out of his body.

In this surrealistic trailer, many universes are spotted and are a visual feast reminding us of Inception and the Matrix. Until now, the possibility of infinite realities/Earth were unexplored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU); but with Doctor Strange coming in the frame, Marvel has opened gates of infinite realities for its other characters in the MCU.

Along with Cumberbatch the movie stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (Karl Mordo), Rachel McAdams (fellow surgeon), Michael Stuhlbarg (Nicodemus West), Mads Mikkelsen (a sorcerer), and Tilda Swinton (Ancient One) and is set to cast its spell on 4 November, 2016.
